Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is defined as the "manual manipulation of the soft tissues of the body to achieve a therapeutic response". Therapeutic massage focuses on the assessment and treatment of the entire body including the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia. The effects of therapeutic massage include but are not limited to relaxation, improved muscle tone, circulation, respiration and nerve transmission.
Massage helps restore balance to the autonomic nervous system (the part responsible for "flight/fight" and "rest/digest") and positively affects the brain, increasing endorphin secretion (natural pain killers), decreasing pain, and reducing stress. Massage is also known to reduce anxiety and depression and can even help in treating restlessness and insomnia. Not everyone responds the same way to various treatments or techniques and pressures... so having a diverse array of skills to draw from is important to us... and beneficial for you!
